Pitch curve, mora by mora
The vertical axis is relative height inside the word (not absolute Hz); letters are the measured H/L. Absolute values are in the table below.
| Word | Romaji | Accent type | Morae | H-L | F0 per mora (Hz) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ねこ | neko | atamadaka (mora 1 high) | 2 | HL | 246 / 202 |
| えき | eki | atamadaka (mora 1 high) | 2 | HL | 281 / 217 |
| やま | yama | heiban (no accent) | 2 | LH | 171 / 214 |
| かわ | kawa | heiban (no accent) | 2 | LH | 230 / 252 |
| はな | hana | heiban (no accent) | 2 | LH | 175 / 220 |
| さくら | sakura | heiban (no accent) | 3 | LHH | 164 / 252 / 249 |
| おかし | okashi | heiban (no accent) | 3 | LHH | 167 / 265 / 248 |
| あなた | anata | nakadaka (accent inside) | 3 | LHL | 174 / 295 / 217 |
How to practise
- Start with heiban: やま, かわ — mora 1 low, then stay high.
- Atamadaka is the opposite: ねこ, えき — high on mora 1, drop on mora 2.
- Nakadaka rises then falls: あなた is L-H-L.
- Always judge with a particle (が / は): bare words make heiban and odaka look identical.
Where these numbers come from
F0 per mora = the voiced span split into N equal parts (N = mora count), median of each. H/L = each mora against the word mean. Mora boundaries are not annotated, so the split is an approximation — which is why the page only reports high/low, not precise Hz per mora. Note also that devoiced morae (か, さ, し, く …) have no periodicity of their own — Praat interpolates along the pitch track, so those points show direction only.
